Bingham goes to Quakes in lottery

[MLS] In a weighted lottery to be conducted Wednesday, the San Jose Earthquakes won the rights to former University of California goalkeeper David Bingham, who signed a Generation adidas contract earlier this week.

Bingham was training with English club Fulham when the SuperDraft was conducted two weeks ago, and because he signed afterward his rights was assigned in a weighted lottery. Several teams, including D.C. United, opted out of the lottery.

San Jose is now excluded from participating in subsequent lotteries for the2011 season.

Bingham is the second Cal keeper to sign a GA contract. Stefan Frei is entering his third season with Toronto FC.

Five of Bingham's Cal teammates were picked in the 2011 SuperDraft.
