Curt Onalfo joins Galaxy as assistant coach

Curt Onalfo, whose stint as head coach of D.C. United ended midway through his first season last summer, has been hired by the Los Angeles Galaxy to serve as an assistant coach and oversee the reserve squad.

At the Galaxy, Onalfo reunites with Coach Bruce Arena, for whom Onalfo played at the University of Virginia and served as a U.S. national team assistant from 2003 to 2006.

Steven Goff reports that it is unclear whether Onalfo will continue to receive a paycheck from D.C. United, which fired Onalfo with two seasons remaining on his contract ($300,000 annually).

Onalfo replaces Cobi Jones, who left the Galaxy to work for the New York Cosmos.
