Dynamo moved east, at least for now

[MLS] The Houston Dynamo will move to the Eastern Conference in 2011 as the solution to MLS's conference realignment dictated by the addition of two teams from the Pacific Northwest, the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps.

MLS now has two conferences of nine teams each, and the Dynamo was the easternmost club in the Western Conference before its move.

MLS will expand into Montreal in 2012, and an expansion team in New York has been discussed. Such a move would mean Houston could be headed back west in a few years.

Every team will play each of the other 17 clubs onceat home, once away, for a balanced 34-game regular season.

Neither the 2011 regular-season schedule nor playoff format has yet to be released.

The 2011 season opens on March 15 when Seattle Sounders FC host the Los Angeles Galaxy at 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN3.com).
