Cairo match is canceled

[EGYPT-USA] The friendly game between the USA and Egypt scheduled to be played Feb. 9 in Cairo has been canceled due to the current unrest in the country. The Americans will not play a match on this fixture date.

"We were excited about the opportunity to play against Egypt, but due to the current situation all parties agreed it was best to cancel the match," said U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati. "We appreciate the efforts of the Egyptian Football Association and the U.S. State Department as we worked through this situation."

The USA’s next international friendlies will be played in March: Argentina March 26 at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., and Paraguay three days later at LP Field in Nashville.

And so goes a meaningless "friendly" that would have needlessly disrupted the lives of Euro-based players who are working hard to establish themselves with new clubs after transfer or trying to maintain their existing positions.
