Dempsey happy to hit double digits

[AMERICANS ABROAD] Clint Dempsey added to his career high for goals in a season when he scored his 10th goal of the season -- nine in the English Premier League and one in the League Cup -- by beating fellow American Brad Friedel to Danny Murphy's corner kick and giving Fulham a 2-2 tie with Aston Villa on Saturday.

"I always wanted to get to double digits," he said. "I came close a few times getting nine, but it feels good and hopefully I'll push on from here. We've got some more games left so I'll just see how many I can get."

Dempsey now has scored 30 EPL goals for Fulham, leaving him only six behind Brian McBride's American record of 36 goals.

He has how the Cottagers are playing and how January signings have brought more competition in the team.

"We're on a good run of form," he said, "so we'll keep it going right now, we're almost mid-table and looking to push on from there. There's more competition for spots and I think we can finish the season strongly. When you're down at the bottom it's definitely difficult, but we've got ourselves out of that position and now we're trying to move up."

In recent weeks, Fulham has climbed to 12th in the EPL, four points outside the relegation zone.

Michael Bradley did not suit up for Villa, the club he joined on loan this week.
