Man United eyes the 'Messi guarani'

Juan Manuel Iturbe, who is being hailed as the next Lionel Messi, lived up to his reputation with the winning goal for Argentina in its 2-1 win over Brazil at the South American U-20 championship that also serves as qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics. (The other Argentine goal was scored by FC Dallas youth product Rogelio Funes Mori from the penalty spot.)

According to insiders, Iturbe, who was born in Argentina but raised in Paraguay, will sign with Portugal's Porto when he turns 18, but Manchester United will be waiting in the wings to welcome him when he has adjusted to European soccer.

Controversy has followed Iturbe, who played for Cerro Porteno but tried to join Quilmes when he moved back to Argentina, only to be banned from playing for Quilmes. Iturbe turned down a move to Barcelona, where Messi plays, when he was at Cerro Porteno.
