[CONCACAF UNDER-20 CHAMPIONSHIP] El Salvador has been kicked out of the Concacaf under-20 championship for using American Dustin Corea in qualifying.
Corea played for the USA in the 2009 Concacaf under-17 qualifying tournament but switched allegiances next year.
Unfortunately, the
Salvadoran federation had not cleared Corea with FIFA, which allows a one-time switch for players eligible to play for more than one country. It reportedly claimed it was unaware Corea played for the
USA and there fore needed FIFA's approval.
Corea, who played
his youth soccer in Oregon before entering U.S. U-17 residency, starred for El Salvador in Central American qualifying for the Concacaf tournament, scoring both goals in the 2-1 aggregate win over
Costa Rica, which replaces El Salvador in the Concacaf finals in Guatemala in April.
That's a first.
