A strategy council with links to UEFA, European soccer’s governing body, wants soccer to get a “fair financial return” from betting operators and voiced its concern with “growing unauthorizedcommercial use of soccer” competitions for betting purposes.

The council is chaired by UEFA President Michel Platini and includes delegates from European clubs, leagues, players’ unions and national federations.

It wants clubs and competition organizers to be compensated for sharing their intellectual property rights with the betting industry, sayingthe extra money is “essential” to fund grassroots football and combat game-fixing.
