[MLS] Chicago has announced the signings of forward Orr Barouch and midfielder Mike Videira. Both of the players have been
with the team through preseason and are playing in the Carolina Challenge Cup tournament this week.
“Orr and Mike are young, talented players who bring versatility to our lineup and are able to play multiple positions,” said Fire technical director Frank Klopas in a team press release announcing the transactions.
Barouch, 19, was born in Israel and grew up in Southern California. He attended El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills, Calif., and attended the Chivas USA youth academy before joining UNAL Tigres in September, 2009, at the age of 17. He played with the Tigres reserve and U-20 teams before joining the Fire this year on trial. He can play as a left-sided winger or midfielder as well as a forward.
Videira, 25, returns to MLS after playing briefly last year for USSF D-2 AC St. Louis following his release from New England, which he joined in 2009. A second-round (No. 18 overall) pick by the Revs in the 2008 SuperDraft, the former Duke midfielder bypassed MLS to sign with Scottish club Hamilton Academical. He joined New England the following year and played 12 matches before being released last year. He played eight games for AC St. Louis.
The Fire winds up its preseason schedule Saturday against the host Charleston Battery in its Carolina Challenge Cup finale.
