Schalke 04 has reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League, making it the only German club still left in the competition, but it has fired Coach FelixMagath. He is the eighth Bundesliga coach to be replaced this season.

Last week, the Gelsenkirchen club said Magath, whose contract ran through the 2012-13 season, would leave atthe end of this season, but it announced Wednesday he would leave immediately for “very good reasons.”

No interim coach was named, but SeppoEichkorn, Magath’s assistant, took over training on Wednesday. Former Hoffenheim coach Ralf Rangnick is expected to take the job next season.
