Fielding a team without any of its foreign-based players, Argentina beat Venezuela, 4-1, in a friendly to inaugurate the new Bicentenario Stadium in the western city of San Juan on Wednesday.
The new 25,000-capacity stadium will host three games at the Copa America in July.
Most of the players Coach Sergio Batista fielded were earning their first cap. Boca Juniors striker Pablo Mouche scored twice.
Batista will weclome his European-based players, including World Player of the Year Lionel Messi, when Argentina faces the USA at the New Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., March 26. The Argentines play at Costa Rica three days later.
