[UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE] Now that Real Madrid is through to the final eight of the UEFA Champions League, its attention turns to Friday's quarterfinal draw in
which Coach Jose Mourinho hopes to avoid former clubs Chelsea and Inter Milan.
Real Madrid reached the final eight for the first time since 2004 with a 3-0 win over French club Lyon on Wednesday.
"I prefer to avoid Chelsea and Inter because emotionally it's difficult playing against your people and your friends," Mourinho said. "If we have to play them then we will play them as we are all professionals but I'll have to forget they are my people. Emotionally, I will have to better prepare myself to play Inter or Chelsea."
For his part, Real general manager Jorge Valdano would prefer to avoid Spanish rival Barcelona, which it trails by five points and is already scheduled to play in La Liga on April 17 and in the Copa del Rey final three days later, and Schalke 04 with former Real star Raul.
"We wouldn't like it if Raul visited us," Valdano said. "There would be too much emotion in the atmosphere and it wouldn't be advisable."
Chelsea clinched the other berth up for grabs on Wednesday when its 0-0 tie with FC Copenhagen was enough to send it into the quarterfinals with a 2-0 aggregate win.
