Colorado's pursuit of Irish striker Caleb Folan has concluded successfully.
The MLS Cup champion announced Wednesday that Folan, 28, is joining the team in a transfer from Hull City. Folan had trained with the Rapids in preseason while a deal for Folan, which had more than a year remaining on his contract, was negotiated with Hull City. Terms were not disclosed.
The 6-foot-2 forward who has played seven matches for Ireland arrived in Colorado on Tuesday and trained with the club Wednesday. During preseason training in Arizona he scored a goal in a 4-2 defeat of the Galaxy, and joins perhaps the best forward tandem in MLS, Omar Cummings and Conor Casey.
Injuries have hampered Folan during his career, a fact cited by Coach Gary Smith. “Physically, there is no doubt he will be a great prospect within the team,” Smith told MLSsoccer.com “The thing we have to work with him on is his health.”
