Former college standout charged with murder

Brittany Norwood, a former women's soccer standout at Stony Brook University, has been charged with murder in the violent death of a co-worker that rocked the affluent Washington suburb of Bethesda, Md.

Police said Norwood, 28, covered up the bludgeoning and stabbing death of co-worker Jayna Murray by saying she was attacked by two masked men inside Lululemon Athletica, a yoga-clothing store where Murray and she worked. Police said that Norwood inflicted wounds on herself and bound her arms and legs after committing the crime on March 12.

Norwood grew up in the Seattle area and was an all-America East first-team performer at Stony Brook in 2002 as a sophomore. She played 12 games as a junior but did not play as a senior.
