[USA-PARAGUAY] There were a few players to choose from for the best U.S. player in the USA's 1-0 loss to Paraguay. Who's your pick?
Michael Bradley, Jozy, and Donovan are getting votes? Are you people freaking kidding me?!? Bradley must have turned the ball over 15 times, and passed the ball forward a grand total of about 10% of the time. Jozy was practically invisible most of the game, partially because Bradley still doesn't know how to play him and partially because, well, he just had a crappy game. And Donovan? Possibly the WORST game I've ever seen him play. Poor touch, blown chances, and easy giveaways hardly make for a man-of-the-match type performance. This should be between Agudelo, Chandler, and Ream. Anyone else getting votes just tells me people reading this blog don't know what they're talking about.
I'll have to agree with you Eric. The only way Bradley gets any playing time is when daddy starts him in international matches. When you aren't good enough to play for your club in Europe, they loan you to a lesser club so that you can play more and get better. But Bradley was loaned to Aston Villa and is still riding the pine. Bradley only retreates when he gets the ball and drops the ball. He had one (1) shot on goal and it was a good one. But that hardly makes up for now (2) bad games in a row. And daddy insists on starting him. Agudelo clearly was the difference maker. How many fouls did he draw? And he was pulled down in the box witha nifty back heal flick to himself. Should have been a penalty. Adudelo will outshine Jozy, and even the fleeting star of Charlie Davies. Ream pleyed well, but Paraguay is hardly Argentina caliber. I saw him play this past summer for NY Red Bulls and he is not the future of USMNT soccer. Agudelo and Chandler are. AND YES ERIC, MOST U.S. SOCCER FANS HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THE GAME OF SOCCER. THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW THE POSITIONS LET ALONE IF A GUY HAS A GOOD GAME OR BAD. EVEN BOB BRADLEY LACKS THIS KNOWLEDGE.
I DONT KNOW A OF GOOD TEAM IN ALL OF SOCCER THAT STARTS 2 DEFENSIVE MIDS AND EXPECTS TO WIN.
Eric, while some of us may believe you got the 3 (Agudelo, Chandler, and Ream) correct as highly effective and worthy of many votes, for you to say they were the only ones worthy is a big arrogant. When Dempsey was getting bushwhacked by a Paraguyan defense that could not handle him, I think there are many that would include him for consideration. It's not much different than what he puts up with in the EPL day in and day out. Some would argue he goes down a lot, others (myself) might argue he scores a lot when they fail to take him down, because he's dangerous. Again, I have no qualms with your top 3, but I am unashamed of having Dempsey in my top 4 and do not believe any of those 4 is a unanimous pick for the best of the night. As far as LD getting any votes goes, I take it you didn't notice the percentage (0%) he garnered or did you mistakenly think that, with LD being right below Dempsey, that those votes were LD's instead of Clint's. I do, however, look to the future and sincerely hope that Agudelo, Chandler, Ream (and Diskeruud?) are not left on the bench for long (or at all). For the time being though, Clint's the one they ought to be learning from.
Donovan has been playing on Mahattan Beach too much during the winter break... he looked totally out of it... I guess he deserved a break, but he needs to find his form before the Gold Cup! His service on dead ball situations was deploreable...get it over the first 1 or defenders ok!?
I will add that, Eric Lichaj and Timmothy Chandler, & Tim Ream acquitted themselves very well... I look forward to their futures w/ the National team...
