Less than a month into its return to top-tier soccer, Vancouver is dealing with a rare request. French center back Mouloud Akloul made his Caps debut last season in late April, and
while wearing No. 6 in 24 minutes scored a goal and suffered a fractured ankle that ended his season.
After three surgeries and nearly a year of rehab he's back on the field, but wants to
come back wearing No. 5, which the club retired in homage to former NASL star and Canadian international Bob Lenarduzzi, the current club president, and Steve McDonald, another former
Cap.
“He’s made a pitch to me,” Lenarduzzi said. “It’s not a big item for me but, from a club perspective, there’s a protocol. I don't want to be the one
to decide."
