Japan might play in Copa America after all

Japan Football Association (JFA) vice president Kozo Tashima says his organization will rethink its decision to withdraw from the Copa America in Argentina following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, which shut down the J-League until April 23.

Argentina soccer federation president Julio Grondona asked the JFA to reconsider its decision to pull-out. "The Japanese association for its part has not reached a final conclusion," Tashima said. "We will reconsider whether we can send a national team by using our wisdom more than ever."

JFA president Junji Ogura had informed Conmebol president Nicolas Leoz on Monday that the Asian champions would not take part in the tournament. Japan and Mexico were this year's guest entrants. A decision on Japan's participation is expected by April 15.
