Bale claims PFA award in only second full season

Tottenham's 21-year-old Welsh midfielder, Gareth Bale, was named the English Premier League's Player of the Year by the Professional Footballers' Association.

In just his second full season with Spurs' first team, Bale has scored 11 goals in 36 games this season. He is the fourth Welshman to win after Ian Rush, Mark Hughes and Ryan Giggs.

"There haven't been too many Welshmen to have won the trophy," said Bale, "but it is great and it is great for me personally. And it is not just for me, it is for all my teammates that have helped me through the season and it is kind of for everyone really."

Arsenal's Jack Wilshere, 19, won the PFA Young Player of the Year award. Bale and Wilshere were joined on the PFA Team of the Year by Edwin Van Der Sar (Manchester United), Bacary Sagna (Arsenal), Nemanja Vidic (Manchester United), Vincent Kompany (Manchester City), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Nani (Manchester United), Samir Nasri (Arsenal), Carlos Tevez (Manchester City) and Dimitar Berbatov (Manchester United).
