Hole lot of trouble over what?

English headline writers went to town over reports that the Manchester United locker room was damaged after its 1-0 loss to Manchester City Saturday in the FA Cup semifinals.

The Times: "United in a hole lot of trouble." Daily Mail: "United put the boot in." Independent: "United expected to foot bill over damage to Wembley dressing room." Daily Star: "United hit the wall." Daily Express: "Hole in the wall gang."

A whole lot of trouble over what? United offered to pay to repair the damage to the wall from a kick by a fitness coach. ("It was about three inches in diameter and was only surface damage and not a hole," insisted a United spokesperson.) The cost to repair the wall was estimated at no more than $80.

United's offer to pay for the repairs was turned down by the English FA, which let the matter drop.
