During Monterrey’s training session Tuesday in preparation for the second leg of the Concacaf Champions League final against Real Salt Lake, Coach Victor Manuel Vucetich offeredexplanation for comments he made in the wake of a 2-2 tie in last week’s first leg.

“I think the comments were misinterpreted,” Vucetich said. “We have the recordings andit’s totally misinterpreted. We’ve always said that today we know [Real Salt Lake] better. There’s no doubt that I know the team better and that should not offend anyone.”

Of his comment “ensuciaron mucho el partido” – which translates to “they really dirtied the match” – Vucetich claimed that something was lost in translation. “Over [inMexico] it’s very common,” Vucetich said of the term. “We’re in our country and we speak in the colloquial manner that is used.”

Vucetich confirmed he willfield his strongest team Wednesday and not hold out players for the weekend’s league match, a regular-season finale against Guadalajara that Monterrey needs to win to qualify for the playoffs.Monterrey is third in Group 1 and tied for eighth overall in the 18-team league.
