The latest round of corruption and bribery allegations swirling around FIFA officials has brought yet another outburst of angst from FIFA president Sepp Blatter, who is opposedby Mohamed bin Hamman of Qatar in the election to be held June 1.

“Zero tolerance . . . is my battle horse,” Blatter said of allegations brought against executivecommittee members, including Jack Warner, Ricardo Teixeira, Nicolas Leoz, Issa Hayatou, Worawi Makudi and Jacques Anouma.

Asian Football Confederationpresident Bin Hamman, who led the successful effort for Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup, has pulled back from his previous campaign stance of openness, transparency, and house-cleaning. “I willhappily and unreservedly restate that I firmly believe FIFA as a decision-making body and as an organization isn’t corrupt,” he said.
