Given the choices of incumbent Sepp Blatter or Asian Football Conferation head Mohammed bin Hamman as the net FIFA president, the English FA has taken a thirdoption: Neither.
FA Chairman David Bernstein had admitted previously that voting for Blatter in the wake of scandalous activities surrounding the bidding process for the2018 and 2022 World Cups, which were assigned to Russia and Qatar, respectively, wouldn’t sit well with the FA board. Since the bids were announced in December, bin Hamman — a native of Qatar –hasn’t been able to sway voters he is willing and able to implement significant changes.
“We will look at the recent events and take that on board,” said Bernstein. “There are twocandidates and three possible decisions, the other being that we will abstain.”
The FIFA presidential election is scheduled for June 1.
