The semifinalists for the Western Hemisphere's most prestigious club competition, the Copa Libertadores, are set and hail from four different nations. Penarol of Uruguay will meet Argentina's Velez Sarsfield. Paraguay’s Cerro Porteno will face Santos of Brazil.

Penarol returns to the semifinals for the first time in 24 years thanks to a 3-2 aggregate win over Universidad Catolica. Substitute Fabian Estoyanoff  scored five minutes from time in Thursday's 2-1 loss in Chile to seal the Uruguayan's club's passage.

Cerro Porteno won 1-0 home over Chiapas of Mexico to qualify 2-1 on aggregate. Velez thumped Paraguay's Libertad, 7-2, on aggregate. Santos prevailed 2-1 on aggregate over Colombia's Once Caldas, which is coached by former Red Bull and Chicago Fire coach Juan Carlos Osorio.
