[AMERICANS ABROAD] Few Americans have ever had as influential 180 seconds in Mexican soccer as 20-year-old Joe Benny
Corona did midway through the first half of Tijuana's deciding promotion playoff game with Irapuato. The former San Diego State winger scored one goal and set up another to lead the
Xoloitzcuintles to a 2-1 win over Irapuato and advance to Mexico's 18-team Primera Division for the first time.
Corona scored on a header to give the Dogs the lead in their second-game series -- the first leg in Irapuato ended in a 0-0 tie -- and he set up Argentine Mauro Gerk for the second goal.
“It was a couple second of pure happiness,” Corona told the San Diego Union-Tribune. “I can’t really describe the feeling. You see everything just stop for a moment. It’s incredible."
