Because Portugal-based, Brazilian-born striker Edivaldo Rojashad had his nickname, "Bolivia," on his shirt, Bolivian national team coach Gustavo Quinteros
discovered that the 25-year-old would be eligible to play for Bolivia thanks to his Bolivian mother.
Based on watching video clips, Quinteros named Rojas to Bolivia's squad for two
friendlies against Paraguay as part of its preparations for the July 1-24 Copa America in Argentina, where Bolivia is in Group A and meets the hosts in the opening match in La Plata.
"I
never thought about playing for Bolivia, but of course I love my mother's country where I spent many happy years," said Rojas, who spent part of his childhood in Bolivia. "But I'm no saviour, I'll
just do my bit."
Rojas plays for Naval, which was just relegated from the Portuguese first division.
