FIFA President Sepp Blatter will also face a FIFA ethics committee inquiry in the latest twist to the bribery scandal that initially involved Blatter’s rivalfor president, Qatari Mohamed bin Hammam, and Concacaf President Jack Warner.

Bin Hammam made the request, according to FIFA, on the basis that Blatter was informed by Warner of the alleged payments to Caribbean soccer officials whose vote bin Hammam was seeking but Blatter did nothing about it. BinHammam, Warner and two Caribbean Football Union officials face an ethics committee hearing on Sunday in Zurich.

“I cannot comment on the proceedings that have been opened against metoday,” Blatter, who has been FIFA president since 1998, said in a brief statement on Friday. “The facts will speak for themselves.”

The election for president is scheduled to be heldJune 1 at the FIFA Congress.
