[GOLD CUP COUNTDOWN] Swedish-based midfielder Alejandro Bedoya has been called into the U.S. national team camp in
preparations for the upcoming friendly against Spain and the Gold Cup. The move follows the ankle injury Benny Feilhaber suffered in the New England
Revolution’s 1-0 loss to Los Angeles.
Bedoya, who played college soccer at Fairleigh Dickinson and Boston College before moving to Sweden, has four goals in nine matches for Orebro
this year.
He earned seven caps in his first year with the full team in 2010.
Teams participating in the Gold Cup have up to 24 hours prior to their first match to replace an
injured player on the roster. The USA opens Group C play on June 7 against Canada in Detroit.
Several other teams have been forced to make changes due to injuries:
COSTA RICA. Midfielder Cristian Gamboa was hurt last week playing for Norwegian club Fredrikstad and was replaced by 19-year-old
Francisco Calvo. Star Bryan Ruiz and Cristian Bolanos are also both battling
injuries.
GRENADA. Junior Williams -- cousin of Shalrie Joseph -- is
Grenada's choice to replace Kithson Bain, who led Grenada with five goals during the 2010 Digicel Caribbean Cup. the Carolina Railhawks forward has a quad
injury.
GUATEMALA. Virginia resident Henry Lopez, whose goal gave Guatemala a 2-1 win over the USA in Under-20
World Cup qualifying, replaced Guillermo "Pando" Ramirez after the former Los Angeles Galaxy player was ruled out with a leg injury.
