Friedel lands at Tottenham

Brad Friedel has signed a deal that will keep him in England for two more seasons. The 40-year-old American signed as a free agent with Tottenham, where he will replace the error-prone Heurelho Gomes.

Friedel has started every EPL for seven straight seasons. He arrived in England in 1997 to play for Liverpool. He played just 25 league games for the Reds before moving to Blackburn, where made a name for himself as one of the EPL's top keepers. After eight seasons, he moved to Aston Villa in July 2008. His iron-man streak of EPL appearances stands at 275 games.

"Brad is a top goalkeeper of real quality who has great experience," said Spurs manager Harry Redknapp. "It is good to have three such experienced top goalkeepers at the club in Gomes, Carlo [Cudicini] and now Brad and it means we have competition for places particularly with the number of games we will hopefully face next year both domestically and in Europe as well."

Gomes might return to old club PSV Eindhoven after a difficult season.
