Kansas City ready to unveil high-tech stadium

  • AP, Thursday, June 9, 2011 12 AM

It took 15 seasons, plus an arduous 10-game road trip, but finally the Kansas City MLS franchise has its own stadium. Livestrong Sporting Park, located in the eastern corner of the city, will host its first match Thursday against the Chicago Fire (10 p.m., ESPN2). It seats 18,467 for soccer and 25,000 for concerts, and features state-of-the-art technology that takes fan convenience and comfort to a new level.

"It's remarkable. It's a technological marvel for the sport of soccer,'' said MLS commissioner Don Garber. "It has so many new and innovative things that will provide fans an experience that will set the standard for not just soccer but in many ways even for other sports.''

Throughout the facility, fans will have access to HD video, interactive services and digital content. More than 150 WiFi access points will accommodate mobile and hand-held devices. More than 330 high-definition television screens will be placed around the stadium, which will be the first MLS facility fully wired for HD.
