Clint Dempsey‘s goal in the USA’s 2-0 win over Canada on Tuesday keeps his streak alive of scoring in every Gold Cup opener he’s appeared in. He had also hit the net in the 2005and 2007 openers.

One year ago, Dempsey scored in the USA’s World Cup opener, a 1-1 tie with England. That marked his second World Cup strike, having scored in a 2-1 loss to Ghana in2006.

In fact, Dempsey has scored in every major tournament he’s appeared in with the USA, including three goals at the 2009 Confederations Cup.

He has also scored in qualifyingfor both the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and is now the USA’s sixth all-time leading scorer with 20 goals, one goal behind fifth-place Bruce Murray.
