Gold Cup audience on Univision networks jumps

[TELEVISION WATCH] The Gold Cup is drawing twice as many viewers on the Univision networks for their coverage of the Concacaf championship as they did two years ago.

Thursday's Mexico-Cuba drew 8 million viewers on Univision and put Univision ahead of all networks except ABC, which had Game 5 coverage of the NBA finals, among men 18-34 and men 18-49.

After eight matches, Gold Cup 2011 is up 92 percent among viewers 2 and older to an average of 1,812,000 a game.

Univision stations had higher viewership than the CBS, NBC and FOX stations combined in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas and San Francisco.

    Not surprised at this jump. Independent of each other, my son and I have both opted to watch the Gold Cup games on Hispanic stations to avoid the standard blather from US announcers. Way too much talk and "homer" attitude. Supporting the home team doesn't mean ignoring their mistakes!!!

    You think that the homer blanter is better in Spanish? It's equally as bad when they're covering Mexico. I really think that this is due to the fact that Cox covers a huge portion of the country and people would rather watch it in HD on Univision than in normal definition on FSC.
