Marta heads ambitious Brazilian team

[WOMEN'S WORLD CUP COUNTDOWN] Marta and Western New York Flash teammate Maurine are joined by eight former WPS players among 21 players Coach Kleiton Lima has selected for Brazil's Women's World Cup team.

Kleiton picked the players from among 25 players training at the Brazilian federation's national center in Granja Comary.

Brazil is looking to win its first FIFA women's championship after finishing second to the USA at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics and second to Germany at the 2007 Women's World Cup.

Brazil leaves home June 24 for Moenchengladbach, where it opens Group D play against Australia five days later.

Goalkeepers: Andreia (Santos), Thais Picarte (Bangu), Barbara (Foz Cataratas).
Defenders: Aline (Santos), Daiane (Sao Jose dos Campos), Renata Costa (Santos), Erika (Santos), Roseane (Bangu), Maurine (Western New York Flash), Rosana (Centro Olimpico), Fabiana (Santos).
Midfielders: Elaine (Tyresoff, Sweden), Ester (Santos), Formiga (Sao Jose dos Campos), Francielle Manoel (Sao Jose dos Campos), Beatriz (Bangu).
Forwards: Thais Guedes (Bangu), Daniele (Vasco da Gama), Grazielle (America), Cristiane (Santos), Marta (Western New York Flash).
