Mexico comes back against North Koreans

[UNDER-17 WORLD CUP] Host Mexico bounced back after conceding a 3rd minute goal to beat North Korea, 3-1, in front of 43,000 fans in Morelia. Also in Group A, Congo upset European champion Netherlands, 1-0. In Group B, France dominated and downed Argentina, 3-0. Besides the USA, other winners over the weekend were Japan, England, Uruguay and New Zealand.

After playing nervously for the first half hour, the Mexicans finally responded with a 37th minute goal by Carlos Fierro.

Goalkeeper Cha Jong Hun was ejected for downing Marco Bueno in the 54th minute and it went further down hill for the Koreans when Jong Kwang Sok headed into his own net a cross from Giovani Casillas. In the 87th minute, Casillas stroked home a rebound after replacement keeper An Kang Chol failed to handle a long-range shot from Fierro.

Yassine Benzia scored twice and Sebastien Haller added a third for the three first-half goals that took France past Argentina, which arrived just one day earlier because off volcanic ash over South America from the Chilean volcano.

New Zealand's Stephen Carmichael had the tournament's first hat trick with three goals within the first 53 minutes.
