USA advances despite scoreless draw

[UNDER-17 WORLD CUP] The USA advanced to the knockout stage at the Under-17 World Cup despite its 0-0 tie against New Zealand. The result left the USA and New Zealand tied with four points and a draw was needed to determine who finished second and third. The USA won the draw and will face the Group E winner, probably Germany, on Thursday in Queretaro.

The USA had a 20-4 edge in shots but could not score. It will be without captain Marc Pelosi on Thursday. He was red carded in the second half.

Uzbekistan won Group D with its 2-1 win against the Czech Republic.

Not much of a match. Both teams knew a draw would get them thru and played beyond conservatively. The red card to Pelosi was a farce. This squad doesn't look like one of Wilmer's better ones, they definitely need to pick it up a notch.
