Gold Cup final smashes Fox Soccer viewing record

[TELEVISION WATCH] Fox Soccer's broadcast of Saturday's Gold Cup final between the USA and Mexico drew 954,000 viewers, the largest audience in its history by a wide margin.

The 954,000 viewers made the Gold Cup final the most-watched soccer match on English-language cable television since the 2010 World Cup and more than doubled Fox Soccer’s previous record of 418,000 viewers for this year’s Chelsea vs. Liverpool “Game Before the Game” pre-Super Bowl telecast on Feb. 6.

The Gold Cup final outdrew network competitors ABC, CBS and NBC among 18-34 males in prime time on Saturday.

I think ESPN gets it The old guard still will keep bowling and poker on because they know the numbers and they are consistent. But when the old guard retires, the younger guys will be the boss; then expect an true ESPN 3 that will cannibalize GOL and be all soccer and international sports all the time to compete with FOX
