Welker takes USL PRO award

[WEEKLY HONORS] Midfielder Andrew Welker, who scored in both of the Harrisburg City Islanders' games at the Los Angeles Blues (2-1 win and 1-1 tie), was named the USL PRO Player of the Week for Week. The Carolina RailHawks' Nick Zimmerman was selected as the NASL Offensive Player of the Week, and Fort Lauderdale Strikers goalkeeper Matt Glaeser won Defensive Player of the Week honors.

With his Islanders reduced to 10 men on Friday night, Welker gave Harrisburg the lead in the 53rd minute as it earned a 1-1 draw with the Blues. Welker then had what proved to be the game-winning goal in Sunday’s encounter.

Zimmerman scored two goals in the Carolina RailHawks’ 5-1 win at Atlanta, their ninth straight win of the season.

Glaeser made five saves on his way to holding the Puerto Rico Islanders to a 1-1 tie.

Both Zimmerman and Glaeser are products of James Madison.
