Wambach doesn't mind new role

Abby Wambach is in a goal-scoring drought and doesn't mind it a bit.

"That means nothing to me," says Wambach, who has scored 118 goals in her international career but only one in nine games this year. "I'm not going to sit here and say I don't want to score. What I'm going to say is that I would prefer winning to scoring. I've been fortunate to score many goals in the World Cup, and we haven't won one. So I'll set up goals. If I have to watch my teammates score goals and we win the championship, I couldn't care less."

The 5-feet-11 forward, who has been battling tendinitis in her Achilles' heel, showed her value, though, in the U.S. opener. Her perfectly placed cross from the left wing to Lauren Cheney produced the first U.S. goal in its 2-0 win over North Korea.
