Canada's ambitious program all for naught

Canada, winner of the Concacaf women's championship, entered the Women's World Cup with high hopes but exited quickly with three losses.

The performance, Canada's worst at the tournament, is a huge setback for its Italian coach, Carolina Morace, who had an ambitious vision for the Canadian women's game and had trained her players for four months in Rome to prepare for the tournament.

Morace was working on developing Canada's possession game, but it looked unorganized at the Women's World Cup.

"It's a terrible blow for any team to get knocked out at this point," said assistant coach Andrea Neil. "And there's such a fine line between success and failure. Here the line hurts, but you have to regroup and move on."
