Bocanegra bats 1.000, enjoys women's success

Yes, soccer fans, that was Carlos Bocanegra batting in the celebrity softball game at Major League Baseball's All-Star celebration earlier this week in Phoenix.

The U.S. national team captain was enjoying the last week of his vacation before returning to French club St. Etienne for pre-season training. During his stay in Phoenix, he also got to catch the U.S. women on television. "The whole place was glued to it," he said after watching USA-Brazil at a cafe.

Bocanegra supports U.S. coach Bob Bradley, who has come in for heavy criticism after the 4-2 defeat to Mexico in the Gold Cup final.  "You can't make everybody happy," he said. "Obviously, it would have been nice to win it, but we weren't good enough on that day, and Mexico was on fire."

Bocanegra singled in his only at-bat in the celebrity softball game. "One for 1. Batting 1.000," he said. "I stopped playing when I was 15. I haven't thrown a ball or hit a ball for like 10 years. I was scared today.
