Gerd Mueller goes missing for 13 hours

Legendary German striker Gerd Mueller went missing for 13 hours in Northern Italy, where he was with the Bayern Munich reserve team he coaches. He was found by Italian police, in a confused and disoriented state, and was taken back to Germany by his wife, Uschi.

The 65-year-old, who scored the winning goal of the 1974 World Cup final and scored 68 goals in 62 games for Germany, reportedly left the team hotel at 3 am and tried to catch a taxi to Munich. The taxi ride, for which he didn't have enough money, took him instead to the train station. He didn't take a train and was found late in the afternoon.

Bayern Munich released a statement saying: "Gerd Mueller left the hotel for a walk and got lost. He was only gone for a few hours, but the problem was that the team changed hotels." A club spokesman says he is doing fine.

Die Welt, however, reports that there had been rumors of Mueller having health problems before the incident.
