[VIDEO PICK] U.S. Women's World Cup stars Hope Solo and Abby Wambach appeared on the "Late Show with David Letterman." They
gave the host a Soccer 101 lesson, Solo told a touching story about the reaction of Japan's Aya Miyama after the final, and then the U.S. pair shot balls at moving taxi cabs.
Miyama was Solo's teammate with the WPS's Saint Louis Athletica and Atlanta Beat and Solo explained that Miyama wasn't celebrating after Japan beat the Americans in the penalty kick tiebreaker.
"She wanted to show the Americans respect because she knew how much it hurt us," Solo said. "I had to tell her, 'Aya, you won the World Cup, the first time in your nation's history, celebrate
please!"

Total class (other than Dave). The USWNT really deserve our support and respect. Compare the women's WC final with the men's. Clean, exciting, high sportsmanship, very entertaining and quality team play. The men's? Not so much, at least fropm the Dutch. Hopefully the quality of the women's game keeps rising and with it the fans' interest. USWNT showed they know how to play team soccer (if only they knew how to finish!).
Look at some facts: Ahead of Brazil 1-0, gave up tying and go ahead goal; Ahead of France, 1-0, gave up tying goal. Ahead of Japan 1-0 and 2-1, gave up tying goals. The Italian MNT, for one, wouldn't be allowed back into Italy after such performances. "Houston, we have a problem."
Charles, the problem with the game today is too many pro coaches who think like you. I will take a 5-4 win over a 0-0 tie anyday. We should have been up 5-0 by the 69', not 1-0. The lack was in finisthing, NOT defense!
Abby and Hope are really funny. Classic line was, 'they have gym in college,' and 'i'm sorry what did you say?' after the line about heading causing brain damage. Very funny
I like Hope Solo's "goal" on the cabbie van. :-)
This was good stuff!
