Stringent standards will be applied to nine technological systems that will tested before the end of the year with the results to
be evaluated by FIFA and the International FootballAssociation Board (IFAB).

The systems, all developed by European companies, will be examined between September and December by the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science andTechnology. FIFA has decreed that the referee must be notified electronically within one second as to whether a goal has been scored

“Each company’s respective technology will bescrutinised across a broad range of criteria, in both daylight and floodlit conditions,” FIFA said in a statement.

IFAB officials will examine the test results and issue recommendations inMarch for a second round of trials. If a system is approved the IFAB can implement it in time for the start of the 2012-13 European season.
