Just months after it avoided relegation, Borussia Moenchengladbach pulled a huge upset when it beat Bayern Munich, 1-0, for its first win in Munich since 1995.

A blunder by new Bayerngoalkeeper Manuel Neuer allowed Igor de Camargo to score the winning goal in the 62nd minute. By comparison,19-year-old goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen was outstanding in goal for Gladbach.

“Bayern have a lot of quality but we showed they can be beaten,”said ter Stegen.

Bayern wasn’t the only contender to fall on opening day. Horrible mistakes cost Bayer Leverkusen a 2-0 defeat at Mainz, which was celebrating the opening of itsstadium.
