[MID-AMERICAN MEN] Defending national champion Akron was named the unanimous Mid-American favorite to win the regular-season title.
The Zips returntop goal scorer Darren Mattocks and junior goalkeeper David Meves, both named to Soccer America’s Preseason All-Americalist.
Akron opens its 2011 season Saturday at home against in-state rival Cleveland State, which handed the Zips their lone loss of 2010.
Northern Illinois was selected tofinish second in the MAC.
