Emotional night ends with Denver on top

[AROUND THE COUNTRY] Junior Kaitlin Bast had two goals and sophomore Kristen Hamilton scored her second game-winner of the season, on a mad scramble in the box with 20 seconds on the clock, to give Denver a 3-2 win over Nebraska on Thursday night.

“It was a very emotional game,” said Pioneers coach Jeff Hooker. “That’s a Kristen type of goal. Everyone’s got a jersey, pulling her hair, pulling her shoulder, pulling her shorts. She spun, went with it, waited until she was on balance and kept it under the crossbar, which we weren’t able to do with our other chances late in the match.”

Nebraska junior Morgan Marlborough had both Huskers' goals, the second after dribbling through three defenders before unleashing an 18-yard laser from the top of the box.

-- Creighton improved to 2-0-0 on the season with a 2-0 win over UMKC on first-half goals by Brittney Neumann and Erin Gunther.

-- Connecticut earned its first win of the 2011 campaign with a 3-0 victory over Colgate on Thursday night. Freshman midfielder Riley Houle had a goal and an assist.

-- On Wednesday, Ashley Clark scored her third goal in as many games and also added an assist as Campbell opened the 2011 home slate with a 3-0 victory over Francis Marion.
