Texas' attack comes alive

[AROUND THE COUNTRY] Texas, which struggled to put any offense together in its opening day loss to Loyola Marymount that knocked it out the Top 25, has come alive, as it put three goals past Georgia for an impressive 3-0 win at UGA Soccer Stadium on Friday night.

Following a 3-0 win at Houston, Texas scored three or more goals for the first time since 2008.

Notre Dame transfer Taylor Knaack scored the first goal from point-blank range and assisted on Gabby Zarnegar's goal.

Kylie Doniak closed out the scoring in the 84th minute when she deflected a long feed from Nina Frausing Pederson into the goal for her second goal of the season.

-- James Madison turned in its highest-scoring game in a decade in a 6-0 win over Pittsburgh in the opening round of the JMU/Fairfield Inn by Marriott Invitational Tournament. JMU freshman Katie Hyland scored twice and sophomore Lauren Wilson tied a school record with four assists as JMU posted its first victory in three games this season.

-- Despite a 30-14 shot advantage, reigning Atlantic-10 regular-season champion Charlotte fell to visiting FGCU, 2-0. The Eagles got goals from junior Danielle Faller and Amanda Goble and 12 saves from senior keeper Stephanie Powers for the win in front of 1,057 fans at Transamerica Field.

-- Mary Coffed scored two goals and assisted on a third, all in the first half, as Auburn blitzed Middle Tennessee State, 4-1.
