Dwyer,who led the JC ranks with 37 goals and was named the NSCAA Player of the Year in 2010, fellow Englishman Kyle Nicholls and Jamaican Brenton Griffiths all arrived from Tyler, the two-time NJCAA Division I champion.
Also making their Bulls debut were freshmanWesley Charpie, who assisted on Dwyer’s goal, and senior goalkeeper Chris Blais, a transfer from Michigan who totaledseven saves.
“He didn’t have a lot of work, but the work he did he did efficiently,” Kiefer said. “That’s what good goalkeepers do.”
Wake outshot USF, 20-16, but could not get a break.
“There were moments where tried to play our way and did a decent job, but just couldn’t sustain it,” said Coach JayVidovich. “Sometimes you have to believe and work hard to create your own luck.”
Things won’t get easier for the young Deacons. They host No. 1 Louisville on Friday.
