Aztecs hand Pilots their first loss

[SAN DIEGO STATE-PORTLAND] Tiffany Hurst's goal in the 25th minute gave San Diego State a 1-0 win over No. 5 Portland Sunday afternoon at the SDSU Sports Deck, handing the Pilots their first loss of the season.

Hurst took advantage of a rebound from a shot by teammate Haley Locker and after a scramble in front of the net easily finished from three yards out.

“We did everything we could to put ourselves in position to win the game,” UP coach Garrett Smith said. “It was a little unfortunate we didn’t get a goal, but give San Diego State credit. They got a goal and then made things difficult for us.”

San Diego State improved to 3-1-0.
