[NASL] Globetrotting coach Tim Hankinson has been named head coach of the San Antonio Scorpions FC, who will begin play
next spring in the North American Soccer League.
“We searched for a top-tier head coach who can skillfully recruit, manage, motivate and mentor world-class athletes,” said
Scorpions president Michael Hitchcock, “and we believe we’ve definitely found this winning combination in Tim Hankinson. He brings with him
more than 25 years of knowledge and experience in running a successful soccer club.”
Hankinson, who will begin immediately to assemble his coaching staff in preparation for player
tryouts this fall, first made a name for himself as the head coach at Alabama A&M.
He later worked in MLS's player development program in the league's early years and coached the
Tampa Bay Mutiny and Colorado Rapids.
He is one of the few American coaches who have worked abroad, spending time at clubs in Iceland and India and working in Guatemala with its U-17
national team.
His most recent job was a six-month stint at Salgaocar SC in India. His most recent job in the United States was as the head coach at NCAA Division II Ft. Lewis.
