Heavy investment and spending by a Qatari group in Paris Saint-Germain could lead to an attempt by the club to sign Galaxy midfielder David Beckham, according to PSG sportingdirector Leonardo.

The former Brazilian international coached Beckham during a loan to AC Milan and says of the 36-year-old, “He is more than a soccer player, but when yousee him every day he trains and plays like a kid. He is someone that I really appreciate and admire so much – his values and everything he has done in soccer.”

PSG last won the Frenchleague title in 1994 but with the investment of Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) was the second highest spending team, behind Manchester City, during the summer window at 75.6 million pounds(approximately $119 million). Leonardo was hired by QSI to revamp the Ligue 1 club two months ago and his major move was to persuade Argentine star Javier Pastore to sign with PSG. Abid for Beckham could be in the offing.

“He respects the rules, listens to you and wants the best for the team,” says Leonardo of Beckham. “That’s why for me he is a big example. I workedwith him and that’s why I talk about his name.”
